Sometimes Gearset users may come across an error when trying to clone a product with related records directly in their Salesforce org.

For example, on below image we're seeing "Error: duplicate value found: GearsetExternalid__c duplicates value on record with id: <xxx> " - where <xxx> corresponds to a specific record ID.

How to resolve this issue?

Our recommendation is to re-run the Gearset External ID Setup wizard on the org.

Note: Gearset now allows teams (and users) that no longer have an active CPQ license to run the External ID removal in our app.
So, if you no longer use our CPQ license, feel free to select "Remove Gearset external IDs" instead of following below guidance to "Rerun setup wizard".

On your Salesforce org connections in our app, select the org affected by this error, and click on Run CPQ external ID Setup:

On the next page select Rerun setup wizard:

Next, under option Add flows to support Clone with Related select:
For objects with CloneWithRelated in layouts.

Then click on Create Gearset External IDs at the bottom right of the page.

When running the External ID setup, we offer the option to include Flows that will help with this scenario and allow you to get rid of the error.

Re-running the External ID setup won't have any negative effect on the existing external IDs created in your org.

Instead, this option - to prevent conflicts - adds Flows to blank out the external ID field when cloning. It also activates the Flows.

After you re-run the wizard, you should no longer see the error in your Salesforce org when attempting to clone a product with related records.
