Explanation of the message
When reviewing backup records for deleted items, you may come across this message instead of the deletion information:
This message is generated by Gearset as part of the following process:
First, Gearset makes a call to Salesforce to check whether any information is available for the record in the Recycle Bin. If the record cannot be found there, Gearset then checks for a corresponding DeleteEvent, if you have backed up DeleteEvents in your backup.
A DeleteEvent acts as an audit trail, recording when items are placed into the Recycle Bin. If no DeleteEvent exists for the record, Gearset is unable to retrieve deletion details, and this message is displayed as a result.
Common reasons deletion information is unavailable
This behavior is usually expected and can occur for several reasons:
The object does not use the Salesforce Recycle Bin
Some objects (such as certain junction or system-managed objects) do not place deleted records into the Recycle Bin and do not generate DeleteEvents. The record was permanently purged by Salesforce and DeleteEvent is not in the backup
Salesforce permanently removes deleted records and delete logs after 15 days. Once purged, deletion details are no longer accessible. The record was hard deleted
Records deleted using hard delete methods bypass the Recycle Bin and do not generate DeleteEvents. The deletion occurred as part of a cascade or system process
Records automatically deleted as part of another action (for example, deleting a parent record) may not generate individual DeleteEvents.
What Gearset can and can’t retrieve
Gearset can only display deletion details that Salesforce makes available via:
The Recycle Bin
DeleteEvent records
If Salesforce does not retain this information, it cannot be retrieved retroactively by Gearset or any other tool.
