Viewing metadata in Salesforce from a comparison

This article describes how you can easily view metadata in Salesforce from a metadata comparison.

When doing comparisons, it can be difficult to understand what the .xml is showing in the diff viewer.

For example, if you have a complex Flow or Lightning page it can be difficult to understand what is being said. And naturally, it may be easier to go into the XML editor to see the incremental changes made to the metadata component.

How to view directly in Salesforce how metadata looks like

To view what that metadata looks like in your Salesforce org, you can hit the view in org... button.

This option is located next to the Item changed date in the comparison view:

Clicking that button will take you to the relevant part of Salesforce allowing you to quickly see what the metadata looks like in the Salesforce org.
