Marketing Cloud Engagement (formerly Exact Target) isn't supported in the metadata API because it sits outside the Salesforce core platform. This means that Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) often isn't supported in your Salesforce CRM DevOps workflow, requiring alternative deployment and backup solutions.

Gearset supports Marketing Cloud Engagement, bringing your CRM and SFMC deployments and backups into comprehensive platform.

Gearset for Marketing Cloud is free to use while in Pilot but will be paid for when it becomes Generally Available.

Marketing Cloud Deployments

Marketing Cloud deployments are coming soon. Marketing Cloud comparisons are available today in Pilot - let us know your feedback!

If you're already using Gearset, you'll find that deploying Marketing Cloud changes between business units is a familiar process.

To deploy SFMC changes between business units:

  1. run a comparison between 2 business units and select your SFMC types

  2. in the comparison, select the changes you want to deploy

  3. run a deployment to apply the changes to your target business unit

  4. log in to your Marketing Cloud org to complete any post-deployment steps (e.g. activating a journey)

Select the source and target SFMC business units to run a comparison
Choose the SFMC types to compare and deploy
The pre-deployment summary shows the SFMC changes that'll be applied to the target
The SFMC deployment is successful

Gearset stores a full audit trail of your SFMC deployments in your deployment history. If there's any issues with the deployment, it's easy to rollback the deployment from your deployment history.

Marketing Cloud Backups

Marketing Cloud Backups are coming soon.

Gearset's change monitoring gives you a detailed audit trail of SFMC configuration changes in your business units on a day-by-day basis. Gearset takes a snapshot of your business unit every day and compares it to yesterday's snapshot, highlighting any differences.

This makes it easy to spot any unexpected or incorrect changes in your business unit. After you've reviewed the changes, it's easy to:

  • roll back unexpected or incorrect changes made directly in the business unit, such as broken AMPScript that causes errors in a journey

  • restore any configuration that's been deleted (either accidentally or maliciously)

Greater visibility into changes in your business unit means that you can reduce downtime on journeys from weeks to hours, and recover quickly when you lose configuration.

To set up an automated backup for your SFMC configuration:
