Why 'Unknown' is sometimes displayed as the 'Changed by' value in the results table

In the results table, we sometimes display 'Unknown' in the 'Changed by' column instead of the name of the user responsible for the change

Instead of displaying the name of the person responsible for making a change to an item, it will sometimes show Unknown in the metadata comparison results table.

This can occur when Salesforce does not return complete Changed on or Changed byinformation for certain metadata items via the API.

In the comparison results table, you may see “Unknown” in the Changed by column instead of the name of the user responsible for the change. This is often the case for components of larger metadata types—such as fields on a custom object. While Gearset treats these as discrete, deployable components, Salesforce typically only provides change information for the parent object.

We hope that over time Salesforce will improve API reporting for these subcomponents in the future. Once this additional detail becomes available, Gearset will display it accordingly.
