The Gearset MCP currently includes tools for Pipelines, reporting, and account information. This article explains what each group supports, so you can choose the tools that fit the work you want your assistant to do.
Checking the available tools
When creating an access token, go to Access token management and look for the MCP section under API scopes. The available tools are listed by group. Hover over a tool name to see its description, then tick the tools you want your MCP client to use.
For instructions on creating your token and connecting your MCP client, see Getting started with the Gearset MCP.
Pipelines
The Pipelines tools let you query your pipelines to see the environments, open PRs, and releases waiting for deployment. You can also check validation and promotion status, and investigate failures.
When you’re ready to move changes forward, your MCP client can validate and promote PRs, or bring features together into a release for deployment.
Reporting
The Reporting tools let you query your team’s deployment history and deployment frequency.
Use them to see how many deployments ran over a particular period, review their outcomes, or look at individual deployments. You can report across your team or focus on one pipeline.
For example, you could ask “How many deployments failed last week?” and then ask to see those deployments. This is useful when reviewing deployment activity or looking for changes in how often your team deploys.
Account management
The account management tool shows which Gearset user your assistant is connected as, including their name, email address, and team ID. Use it to check that your assistant is connected to the account you expect.
More tools are coming
We’ll be releasing more tools as we develop them; the available tools, their names, and how they behave may change over time.
If there’s something you’d like to do through the Gearset MCP that isn’t covered yet, let us know through the support chat in the bottom right of the Gearset app.
